of Wado Kai
Wado Kai is the name of the organization within the Japan Karate Federation (JKF), comprised of the Wado Ryu Karate schools.The Japan Karate Federation of Wado Kai is an internationally recognized Karate organization with over 1350 branches in Japan and over 250 groups outside of Japan. The Federation has well over 850,000 members, approximately 180,000 of whom hold black belts.
In 1934, Ohtsuka Sensei founded the forerunner organization of the Wado Kai Federation, the Dai Nippon Karate Shinko Karubu, making 1934 the accepted date for the founding of Wado Ryu Karate. In 1938 Wado Ryu Karate was registered as an independent style with the Dai Nippon Butokukai.
After World War II, all the separate styles of Karate were united as the JKF (Japan Karate Federation). Wado Kai has been considered to be one of the most important styles since 1967.
Today’s Wadokai leaders are (in Japan) Arakawa Toru, 9th Dan, Hakoishi Katsumi, 8th Dan, Takagi Hideho, 8th Dan, Ashihara Mizuro, 8th Dan, and instructors in Europe such as Ohgami Shingo (Sweden), 8th Dan, Roberto Danubio (Switzerland), 6th Dan.
