Wado Ryu Karate
Wado Ryu Karate is one of the four main Japanese Karate styles.Ohtuska Hironori, founder of the Wado Ryu Karate style, combined the techniques of Shotokan Karate with the evasive maneuvers found in Jiu Jitsu, while striving to make the movements “more economical”. To begin with, he eliminated all of the excessive preparatory moves and shortened the stances.
He also changed the techniques that he found to be too energy consuming in their execution, changing all of these techniques into moves that were as economical and efficient as possible.
In keeping with this awareness, the main focus in Wado Ryu Karate is on evasive body movements. This concept of evasion is clearly represented in the standardized Kihon Kumite, which Sensei Ohtsuka referred to as the typical Wado Ryu Karate Kata.
