
Wado Ryu Kumite
In Wado Ryu Kumite, various forms of combat are practiced with a partner.Many proceed according to a predetermined sequence. The following forms are generally practiced in Wado Ryu Kumite:
Ippon Kumite:Partner exercises with one step and one technique. |
Sanbon Kumite:Partner exercises with three steps and three attacks, followed by three defensive moves and one or more counter moves by the defender. |
Ohio Kumite:A series of attacks and defensive moves, in an imaginary situation that depicts free combat. |
Jiyu Kumite:Free combat without predetermined attack and defensive techniques. Sport Karate is a form of Jiyu Kumite. |
A very special form of Wado Ryu Kumite is Kihon Kumite: Exercises with a series of attacks and defensive moves, in which the traditional movement concepts of Wado Ryu Karate are applied. This kumite form was developed by style founder, Hironori Ohtsuka.
A further unique form of Wado Ryu Kumite is Tantodori: Comprised of kumite forms and knife attacks
